According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, the gross grain harvest, according to preliminary forecasts, will amount to 19.5 million tons.
“Totally in the country, in 2019, it is planned to place crops on an area of about 22.3 million hectares, which is 291 thousand hectares or 1.3% more than last year,” the report says.
The response also indicates that the area of spring sowing will amount to 18.9 million hectares. At the same time, crops will be placed on an area of 14.9 million hectares (including wheat - 11.2 million hectares), oilseeds - 2.7 million hectares, vegetable and melon crops and potatoes - 463.4 thousand hectares, fodder crops - 4.1 million hectares, industrial crops - 132.7 thousand hectares (including cotton - 110.0 thousand hectares, sugar beets - 22.2 thousand hectares, tobacco - 0.5 thousand ha).
“As part of the ongoing work to diversify the structure of sown areas of agricultural crops compared to last year, it is expected to expand the area of grain crops (barley, oats, corn for grain, peas and chickpeas) by 32.3 thousand hectares, sugar beets - by 2.6 thousand hectares, vegetable and melons and potatoes - by 22.2 thousand hectares, fodder crops - by 654.1 thousand hectares, the Ministry explained.
In accordance with the State Program for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2017–2021, gross grain harvests are projected at the level of 19.5 million tons this year, which is 4% less than a year earlier. Recall, according to Comstat, the gross grain harvest in 2018 was 20.2 million tons, of which 13.9 million tons was wheat.
